  FYI I grew up in Osceola and attended St Bernard's; the new church (which is now the existing church) was built when I was in the 8th grade. I worked a few afternoons putting varnish on the wood beams in the ceiling.
  
  At that time, Fr. Jerry Deere was the pastor; he was an avid horse hobbyist; he and friends always rode in the 4th of July parade. In about 1957, his horse had a heart attack and died during the parade. I was marching in the high school band and remember marching by this dead horse on the pavement. What a day!
  
  Most of my family attended and was buried in this church. When I was maybe 3 years old, the original frame church was heated by a pot bellied stove. I remember going to sleep on my g'dad's lap during Mass one winter Sunday.
